Scotts fertilizers and the environment

People are becoming more and more environmentally-aware, largely due to the media attention surrounding global warming. The consumer devotes a great deal of attention to his health and is taking more account of future generations than ever before.
We hear more and more frequently calls for the environmentally-friendly maintenance and management of sports fields, golf courses and lawns. There is still very little national legislation regarding the use of products with a reduced environmental impact. In social terms, however, no-one can ignore environmental issues.
In the case of sports facilities, golf courses and public green areas, the use of an organic fertilizer is not the best option. Where environmental-friendliness is concerned, Scotts’ coating technology – slowing the release of nutrients for the grass plant – is a much better solution. Independent research has in fact demonstrated beyond any doubt that barely any nutrient leaching occurs at all when using fertilizers eleased in a controlled manner, thus resulting in less soil pollution, in contrast with organic fertilizers.
Scotts has been contributing to minimising environmental impacts for decades by continually investing in innovative coating technology. Scotts wants to further extend its contribution and promote awareness by explicitly informing users about the “sensible and correct” use of its products by means of marketing communications. This environmental-awareness mission is fully embedded within the Scotts organisation and manifests itself in production technology and product development.
